TIPSY TUESDAY – Finding Balance with Laura Poburan | L2 Fitness
As a fellow female entrepreneur, I understand how it sometimes feels to put yourself last in order to one day hopefully be able to put yourself…not last.
As a fellow female entrepreneur, I understand how it sometimes feels to put yourself last in order to one day hopefully be able to put yourself…not last. How many times in a week do you say: “sure, what’s one more thing, I’d love to…” or “of course I can do that for you…” or “I’d love to help…”
Something I have learned (the hard way) is that in order to make a powerful impact, you have to first be powerful. And nothing sucks your power cup dry faster than over stretching and remaining naïve to your boundaries. You feel this unavoidable urge to take it all on, “give me more, I can handle anything!” you think to yourself. While this is noble, and badass, do you know what is even MORE badass?
Learning when it’s okay to say no.
Knowing that by valuing your health, your sanity and your instincts this doesn’t mean by default you are devaluing those of others.
You have a lot to give to the world, but what good is that gift if at the end of the day you are left a puddle on the floor completely drained of your passion, energy, and resilience?
Something I learned the hard way is to be ruthless with your time. What are the projects that you are passionate about? What are the ones that serve your bigger vision and align you with those people who lift you up and drive your momentum? Those are the ones to give energy to.
There will always be commitments you make to others that don’t exactly float your boat, but at some level they need to serve a higher purpose or else these are going to become your downfall.
Saying “yes” to things that slow your momentum and don’t serve your goals can be draining as an entrepreneur. You have BIG goals – I know you do, because we’re the same, you and I. If you’re too busy making the goals of others happen, when are you going to have the time and energy to give to your own future?
This may sound selfish, but the truth is that it’s really not. If you’re in the business of people (and I would argue no matter what business you’re in, you’re in the business of people) your entire day revolves around working to help others within the realm of what you love to do. The more “yes’” you say to tasks that don’t move you forward, the further you move away from the focus you need to reach your lofty, meaningful goals.
In our world, achieving balance is a whole other job - just like managing our social media accounts, am I right, or am I right? So how do we do this?
Planning the week out is key for me. I block out chunks of time for designated tasks every day, I plan my weeks ahead of time so I always know what is coming up, but most importantly this allows me to see if I realistically can take more onto my plate or not, when asked. This keeps me from over-extending, setting boundaries, and managing my time the most effectively.
I then take this one step further and plan my “weekends” (aka the 6 hours on Sunday that I’m currently not working ha!) as well. What key relationships do I want to work on this weekend? Who do I want to connect with and how? What will I do to fill up MY cup and rest so I can continue in ruthless pursuit of my dreams? These are all just as important as being productive day after day. After-all, if these fall by the wayside, what is it you’re working so hard for?

MAD LOVE MONDAY - Nicole Taylor | TR Event Management
My name is Nicole Taylor and I am the Owner of TR Event Management. We are a Wedding & Event Planning Company in Edmonton.
My name is Nicole Taylor and I am the Owner of TR Event Management. We are a Wedding & Event Planning Company in Edmonton. Way back when I started TR Event Management I never dreamed it would be what it is today, nor I would have gotten big enough to have a team behind me, but here we are, a team of two coordinators, and eight in total handling major event set ups and I am still in love with this company as ever! I knew I didn’t want to go back to a full time job after my son, so I put it all into TR Event Management and over the past couple years it has only gotten better! We have been apart of small events of 10, and our biggest wedding guest count was 550! If you had told me when I started I would be working with an event that size I wouldn’t have believed you. My absolute favorite thing about this job is meeting the amazing people I have met, clients, and industry partners have turned into incredible friends and for that I could myself lucky! In my career to date I have been apart of over 25 weddings, and so many other special days and events!

We decided this feature would be the perfect place to share some tips and tricks for Event Planning. Whether you are planning a kids birthday party, a wedding or anything in between there are some little tricks I have picked up along the way.
Lists – They are your friend, Guest Lists, Items to buy lists, Checklists – trust me I have them everywhere and probably drive my poor husband crazy with my OCD and lists!
Timelines! – Make yourself a realistic timeline and try your best to stick to it! For larger events like weddings, include things like the vendors you need to book, deposit due dates, and everything in between! For smaller events you can do a condensed version of this paired with those lists knowing you may not need to have as lengthy of timeline but trust me they help! Timelines are also very important for the day of your event. They keep you on track and keep your day flowing.
Take time away from planning for fun. It can take a lot of hours to plan a wedding or event, so be sure to have some me time in between, Go on dates with your soon to be partner! Have a girls night with your friends, or take an afternoon at the spa by yourself! Don’t let what is to be such a special day overwhelm you, it can happen easily. Paired with that take the help offered. If you have DIY projects, take up bridesmaids, and family on the offers to help! You will thank yourself.
Choose your vision and let yourself stick to it! In Wedding Planning you and your partner may get varying opinions on details, but remember the day is about the two of you. Don’t let the thoughts of others sway your vision!
CONTRACTS! This I cannot stress enough. In my industry I have heard horror stories of vendors not fulfilling promised duties! Meet with vendors, do your research, read reviews and make sure you click. You want to work with a photographer that makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera. You want a DJ that will keep your dance floor full. You want food that will have people talking for weeks to come! From all that you want all details outlined in a contract!
Events like weddings are once in a lifetime. Above all enjoy the process of planning because I promise you will blink and it will all be over. You will have those photos and memories to look back on always, but if you are stressed the whole way through it will be what you remember! I always tell my couples 99% of things that go wrong on the day will go un noticed even by you if you are focused on and enjoying your surroundings! Happy Planning!

No matter what your company is about, you can find comfort during those long drives between clients, long editing sessions, making sessions, etc. in podcasts. Some of these podcasts are educational for bossbabes while others are just pure entertainment. To save you time trying to find a podcast worth downloading, we are here to share our experiences so far with podcasts we can't get enough of. Here is a list of podcasts we are digging at the moment.
Laugh out Loud:
This is the newest podcast on our list but with some of the most entertaining guests, like Kristen Bell and Ashton Kutcher, just to name a few. It's funny, personable and gets guests talking about relatable topics.
A longtime fav podcast of mine because of the really neat concept: Celebrity guests, Anna Faris and her good friend Sim and at the end of each podcast, they all provide strangers advice on their relationships in life. Super relatable and just full of really great vibes. Anna is such a homegirl.
Listening to home town fav, Kaitlyn Bristowe on her podcasts is like sitting down with wine and your girlfriends and laughing your a** off for an hour. It's hilarious girl talk.
One of Amy's favs to listen to while driving or working, is local DJs podcast, Ryder & Lisa from HOT 107. Keep your day going with this light and funny podcasts from two hilarious Edmontonians.
This gang has different personalities with such diverse guests, there is always an episode for every girl. While they can be obnoxious, they cover great topics while keeping down to earth and sometimes - just plain raunchy. A good laugh for all in need. indeed..
Bossbabe Vibes:
"Airing twice a week, She’s Building Her Empire will help you follow you purpose, blaze the trail and build or expand your business empire – without running yourself into the ground. From Mindset and Productivity to Branding and 7-figure Business Systems & Strategies, listen to what tickles your fancy." - She's Building Her Empire Website
Make your dreams and reality with the help of this inspiring podcast! Listen to men and women tell their true stories, get life hacks that lead to success, and listen to questions answered by other entrepreneurs. Learn, learn, learn.
Canadian girls sharing their journey in the retail world. Better yet, there are Western Canadian women killing it! With great conversation and guests, you will for sure learn something new. The vibe is very inspirational as well - babes who really support other babes.
Binge Worthy:
I have this thing for crime podcasts - and it all started with this podcast.. It was so good and happened to heat up this case that is over 12 years old... No spoilers. I will leave you with that..
Christopher Goffard, from LA Times, tells this true story while interviewing the people involved. It takes turns you did not see coming - so it is perfect for a long drive or long evening working away!
This podcasts made plenty of Best of 2017 lists and that's simply why I tried it.. I am so happy I did. It is a story that takes turns and reveals so much about the human condition. I don't want to spoil it, but just trust me when I say, it is worth listening to from begining to end. *I do recommend lightening things up here and there with a podcast from our Laugh Out Loud section while listening to this podcast.
Because I found such obsession in Up & Vanished, creator Payne Lindsey cracks open an even older case (40 years ago) and investigates it as he creates his episodes. This crime is Atlanta's darkest secret, and it seems to still have a lot of questions still remaining.
We hope you find great new podcasts from our list! Let us know your thoughts on these podcasts and if you have any favourites you would like to share with our #YEGBOSSBABES community! Comment below!
